Late or lapsed renewal

No grace period. Without continuing competence the license goes inactive the day after the renewal date; a lapsed license needs reinstatement ($180 fee).

How many CE hours do North Carolina RNs need?

You choose one of eight options. The common ones are 30 contact hours, or 15 contact hours plus 640 hours of active practice in the previous 2 years, or national certification.

Is there a grace period in North Carolina?

No. The Board says no grace periods and no exceptions. If you cannot show you met continuing competence, the license goes inactive at 12:01 a.m. the day after your renewal date.
