Late or lapsed renewal
Unrenewed licenses lapse after 4:30 p.m. Dec 31; practicing on a lapsed license brings penalties. Renewal fee $100 + $4.50 transaction fee (single-state RN).
How many CE hours do Alabama RNs need?
24 contact hours each 2-year earning period from a Board-approved or Board-recognized provider. First renewal includes 4 hours of Board-provided CE, with the total prorated.
What if my Alabama license lapses?
Single-state RN licenses expire December 31 of even-numbered years. Renewal runs Sept 1 to 4:30 p.m. Dec 31. Unrenewed licenses lapse and you can no longer legally practice. Missing CE is also cause for lapse. Late CE compliance fees (separate from renewal): $150 / $300 / $600 by offense count (ABN CE FAQ).
